Michael Conlan calls out Vladimir Putin in first tweet since controversial loss

Robert Redmond

Michael Conlan hasn’t lost his sense of humour anyway.

Most would also say he didn’t lose to Vladimir Nikitin in his 56 kg quarter-final boxing bout at the Rio Olympics either, but the judges scored the fight in favour of the Russian.

Conlan was, in most people’s eyes, robbed of his second Olympic medal and a chance for gold at the Games. The 24-year-old swore never to fight amateur again and was understandably furious following his fight.

As was his older brother Jamie, his close friend Paddy Barnes and most of Twitter.

Conlan himself sent this very amusing tweet later in the day. The Belfast boxer tweeted Russian overlord Vladimir Putin directly, asking him how much he parted with to secure his compatriot’s victory.

At least he hasn’t lost his sense of humour.
