Graeme McDowell’s caddy for the Masters Par 3 event is an American hero

This is a wonderful gesture from the Irishman.

Some of the golfers hoping to try on that famous Green Jacket on Sunday night in Augusta will warm up for the Masters tonight with the Par 3 event.

Rory McIlroy – who is sitting out this evenings warm-up – has previously had One Direction’s Niall Horan as his bagman for the Masters-eve action, but Graeme McDowell has offered an American hero the chance to take his bag around the greens and fairways later.

The Antrim native has confirmed that former American soldier Kevin McCloskey will help him out, which is sure to be a major talking point and an arresting sight on the fairways and greens.

McCloskey lost both legs in a Taliban attack on his army convoy in 2008, which also left him blind in one eye and scarred, with severe burns to large parts of his body.

Following his ordeal, he received the Purple Heart Presidential medal, and now he is set to be thrust back into the national spotlight thanks to McDowell.

Writing on his Twitter page, McDowell said he was honoured to have the 29-year-caddying for him later.
