New lease of life

It all feels very ‘Angel di Maria.’

Manchester United are being linked with a big-money move for a creative, left-footed Real Madrid midfielder from South America who has become disillusioned at the Bernabeu.

Sound familiar?

James Rodriguez is the latest player to be added to Ed Woodward’s list of potential targets according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

According to the report, United have a war-chest of €200 million to use over the next 12 months and almost half of that could be used to prise the Colombian superstar, who is valued at €80 million, away from Rafa Benitez’s bench.

Rodriguez has only appeared eight times in Real Madrid’s 16 La Liga games this season and has struggled to adapt to life at the Bernabeu since arriving last summer.

The 24-year-old announced himself on the world scene with this wonderstrike in the 2014 World Cup which was awarded the Puskas Award.

Louis van Gaal is a long-time admirer of Rodriguez and the attacking midfielder would be a welcome addition to his United squad that has lacked creativity as of late, scoring just three goals in their last six Premier League outings.
