Munster receive encouraging news on injured trio ahead of quarter-final

Jack O'Toole

Munster have said that scrum-half Conor Murray has made a return to training ahead of Saturday’s Guinness PRO14 quarter-final against Benetton Rugby in Thomond Park.

Murray withdrew before Munster’s win over Connacht last weekend with a minor injury but returned to training on Monday as he looks to make a full recovery before this weekend. Meanwhile fly-half Joey Carbery (hamstring) and winger Keith Earls (thigh) are also slated to return to training this week despite missing both the win over Connacht and the previous weekend’s loss to Saracens in the Champions Cup.

Elsewhere centre Dan Goggin was removed for a HIA on Saturday, which he passed, and will resume full training today while Brian Scott (foot), James Cronin (leg), Fineen Wycherley (hamstring) and Tommy O’Donnell (shoulder) all continue to progress with their rehabilitation.

Munster fly-half Tyler Bleyendaal, who has deputised in the absence of Carbery, said that the victory over Connacht should give Munster some good momentum heading into the play-offs.

“Yeah look, we made it tough at the end but it was a really good performance,” said Bleyendaal.

“It was good and nice to build some momentum into the play-offs and look Connacht were throwing everything at us there and we have a lot to work on but we’re really happy with the win. Yeah look it was nice that the guys gave me some front-foot ball and we got our maul working as well and we’re really happy with the win.”
