They owed us one.
It was a shaky start for New Balance but consider the new Ireland away jersey a delightful olive branch.
The new-look new-make Irish kits have dropped ahead of the September internationals and, although the home one wasn’t as disastrous as first feared, it still wasn’t great – let’s be honest. It wasn’t even great with Jon Walters filling it like a dream.
The away kit was revealed on Sunday though and it’s safe to say that they’ll probably jump off the shelves – or hangers – a lot quicker.
Ireland have four games left – two away from home – in their bid for World Cup qualification and it’s all creeping up frighteningly fast.
- Georgia v Ireland – September 2
- Ireland v Serbia – September 5
- Ireland v Moldova – October 6
- Wales v Ireland – October 9
Ahead of the final showdown – please spare us playoffs in November – New Balance will showcase their new kits and the white away strip is actually pretty nice.
The only way was up, right?

Simple, plain, neat colour, nice green complimenting the white.
And if you need the Jon Walters version before you make your final decision…

It’s a good job.
Now the wait for a new jersey to be revealed in a few months time ahead of the World Cup.
