Miesha Tate goes in for nose surgery, shares post-op picture

Took some serious punishment last year

Miesha Tate took some damage in her 10 years as a professional MMA fighter.

‘Cupcake’ certainly had a hard centre though as she was rarely without another fight to plan for and another opponent to work out. She only had one fight in 2011 but she was kept busy otherwise.

The former Strikeforce champion finally realised her long-held goal of reaching the top of the women’s fight game when she submitted Holly Holm to win the UFC bantamweight title at UFC 196.

Her title reign was short-lived as, four months later, she was comprehensively defeated by current women’s champ Amanda Nunes’ at UFC 200. Tate’s nose was badly broken in that main event fight but she still fronted up at the post-fight press conference.

Tate was determined to get back on track at UFC 205 and declared herself to be in the best shape of her life for the Madison Square Garden [Nw York] bow:

She was outclassed by Raquel Pennington and lost a unanimous points decision. She waved away her coach and boyfriend Bryan Caraway’s pleads immediately after the fight and announced to the world she was retiring.

The 30-year-old has since taken to MMA media work like an old pro. Her analyst spots on FOX and numerous podcasts and preview shows, in the past two months, have been engaging and insightful.

Tate has also taken the opportunity to get a deviated septum repaired in her nose. She had complained, in the past, of having breathing difficulties due to it and will hope her surgery, on Wednesday, sorts it out.

Following her surgery, Tate shared a Snapchat image of how she was looking.

Still relatively young and full of talent and desire, Tate is good enough to still cause ructions in the bantamweight division.

As a fighter or pundit, however, we have not seen the last of the Washington native.
