We never thought that there was an American football equivalent to missing an open goal.
Then Donteea Dye happened.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver found himself literally within touching distance of a touchdown during his team's 31-23 defeat to the St. Louis Rams on Thursday night.
After latching on to an inch-perfect Jameis Winston throw, Dye began celebrating at the one-yard line but he wasn't blown down so was still in play and all he needed to do was reach out and score.
He got an absolute earful from his teammates for his lack of game awareness but his blushes were spared as Luke Stocker recovered what was deemed a fumble and the Bucs went on to score in the very next play.
Still, we're sure he'll know better next time.
