Big news in the world of TV sport today

If you enjoy having ESPN on your telly box, plus lots of other US sports scattered across BT Sport, then this bit of business wil be very welcome.

According to SportsBusiness.com BT Sport and the American giant have just signed a new seven-year deal to share content in this part of the world.

BT took over ESPN’s UK and Ireland channels in 2013 and this new deal means they are not going away, music to the ears of the hardcore US sports fan.

Not only will the ESPN channel remain part of the BT offering, but it seems even more of the American channel’s content will be broadcast here.

The article states that 5,000 hours per year (nearly 14 a day) will be shown and it won’t just be live sport like baseball, college football or all the other stuff ESPN sends this way at the moment.

ESPN Films, which should include 30 for 30, will continue to be shown and the more popular shows Stateside, like Around The Horn and Pardon The Interruption, are also said to be on their way back to our screens (they were shown when ESPN had a wider suite of channels in the UK and Ireland before the BT takeover in 2013).

Guess we’re just going to have to drink even more coffee.
