It appears the deal is being held up after Chesterfield told the MLS side to double their initial offer. New York City have to work within a wage cap, and with Villa and Lampard set to be designated players, any further transfers will have fit within the strict financial restrictions imposed on MLS franchises.
This means if they are to increase their original offer, it may affect the wage package they can offer Doyle.
But Doyle is interested in the deal and looks to be on the move at some point today. The Dubliner's prolific form in League One has also caught the attention of Celtic and Derby County. Doyle has had previous spells with Sligo Rovers and Hibernian.
