Wesley Sneijder’s fine for 11 yellow cards is absolutely ridiculous

This seems very, very harsh.

Galatasaray have fined Wesley Sneijder €2m for picking up 11 yellow cards last season. That's right, €2m. The Dutch midfielder has been at the club since 2013, and is a favourite amongst fans, but his agent says the fine is part of a plot to force him out of the Turkish club, and claims Sneijder won't pay it. "Galatasaray are trying to bully Wesley out of the club," Guido Albers told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. "Of course, Wesley will not accept his punishment. It is a real shame that such a big club are stooping so low. Our lawyer has gotten in touch with FIFPro and the Turkish union."

"They are only doing this in an attempt to get a €7.5million transfer fee for him."

Sneijder has publicly brushed off the fine, and promised clarity over his transfer status in the coming days, saying: "I am really sorry for what has happened. It's not possible to say at the moment what is going to happen. We will wait and see what the coming days will bring.

"I do not give too much importance to the fine."

Sneijder joined Galatasaray from Inter Milan, but had been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United for a number of summer transfer windows. The speculation could start back up again given the predicament at Galatasaray, and that his old Inter boss Jose Mourinho is at Old Trafford.
