Alex Ferguson is recovering in hospital after undergoing emergency surgery for a brain haemorrhage.

Ferguson remains in a serious condition, having been rushed to hospital on Friday after complaining about feeling unwell. The legendary Manchester United manager was initially taken to Macclesfield district hospital before being transported to Salford Royal. In a short statement, Manchester United announced that the procedure had "gone very well but he needs a period of intensive care to optimise his recovery. His family request privacy in this matter."
