Ask any footballer and they're likely to say that the most repulsive thing you can do on a pitch is spit on an opponent.
Most would prefer to take a punch to the eye than be spat on because the degradation that comes with the latter is so much more insulting.
It takes an awful lot to accuse a player of spitting because who's to prove that they weren't just spitting on the grass and accidentally hit an opponent?
With that being said, the scenes involving Marko Arnautovic and Kenny Tete on Saturday night don't make for pleasant viewing.
In the international friendly, tensions appeared to rise between Austria's Arnautovic and Holland's Tete before the Stoke forward spat on the Dutch right back.
Only Arnautovic knows for certain whether or not he intended to hit Tete but we certainly hope it was purely accidental.
