But Kevin Gutierrez is made of sterner stuff as he gave Mexico their first win in Group D of the U20 World Cup with a sublime free kick right at the death. At 1-1 in injury time, Uruguay's Eric Cabaco saw red for a second yellow card but Los Charrúas must have felt that it was too late to be punished for losing a man. Then up stepped Gutierrez. The 20-year-old Querétaro defender showed the steely nerve of a veteran and simply floated a left-footed effort onto the underside of the crossbar which beat the Uruguay keeper all ends up and steal all three points.
