Japan played UAE in the Asian Cup quarter-finals earlier today.
With score level at 1-1 at the end of extra-time, the two sides faced a penalty shoot-out. But, with Japan being favourites and the holders of the competition, you'd imagine they'd still have enough to oversee their minnow rivals.
Keisuke Honda steps up and the AC Milan forward, Japan's best player smashes the ball over the bar and into orbit. The game was staged in Sydney but the ball should pass by Irish skies in the next few hours.
The penalty shoot-out then went to sudden death and it was the turn of Japan's other big star, Shinji Kagawa, to keep them in the competition. The former Manchester United player hit the post, the UAE went through 5-4 on penalties and Honda should probably avoid taking penalties in the future.
