VIDEO: Wayne Rooney had a cheeky little pop at Liverpool during the POTY awards

Louis van Gaal (rightly) took all the headlines for his speech during last night's player of the year awards at Old Trafford.

But we feel that Wayne Rooney's subtle dig at Liverpool during the awards ceremony is also worth talking about a little bit. The Manchester United captain was asked about how his side had missed Champions League football this season and he came back with a response that got one of the biggest laughs of the night.

"If you look at Liverpool and what happened to them. They were without it [Champions League football] for years ... which was no shame."
