Seattle Sounders supporters might just be the angriest football fans in the world right now.
The Seattle Sounders were sent crashing out of the U.S. Open cup after a questionable performance from the referee.
Seattle lost to Portland Timberwolves 3-1 in extra-time but finished the match with only seven players on the pitch after three of their players, Brad Evans (69'), Michael Azira (113'), and Clint Dempsey (114') were red-carded.
Promising youngster Obafemi Martins also had to be taken off injured at the 87 minute mark, after all three substitutes were made.
Clint Dempsey received his marching orders late in the game after taking the referee's notebook, throwing it on the ground and then tearing it up in front of him.
This result ended Seattle's 20-match winning streak in their fortress of a stadium in the cup, which dated back to when the club's previous incarnation in the second tier of the US soccer leagues.
It is unsurprising that the referee required a police escort to leave the ground safely after the final whistle.
