Martin O'Neill did well to keep his counsel for so long.
Him and his team were written off only a few months ago. He was told he was doing his job wrong. He was nationally lambasted to no end every time people like Eamon Dunphy and Johnny Giles got half a chance. And he just got on with it.
Well, whether it was building up or not, the Derry man had the last laugh at the RTÉ soccer pundits' expense who he poked fun at for not showing up to the RTÉ Sports Awards on Saturday evening.
"Thankfully I didn't listen to them," O'Neill told Darragh Maloney of the broadcaster's analysts when times were bleaker for the Republic. "[They] should possibly be looking for other jobs themselves now. Because they get it wrong so often. Only a slight dig..."
Well said, Marty. You earned that.
And, Jesus, we bet it felt great.
