If the dreaded vote of confidence comes from the board, what the hell is it when it comes from Sam Allardyce?
Louis van Gaal must be wondering this morning how did his managerial career get to here: being defended by Big Sam.
The Manchester United boss is seemingly under constant pressure - actually, he's not as much anymore because apparently Jose Mourinho is away buying and selling players for that United team that's already his.
And the Dutch managerial legend reached a new low on Thursday when he made a fresh ally in Sam Allardici. The Sunderland boss jumped to the defence of van Gaal and his record, despite the falling-out they had just last year.
Then West Ham manager, Allardyce aimed a little dig at United's long ball tactics that undid his long ball side.

Of course, Louis didn't let it lie and he didn't aim a dig back. He prepared a dossier of facts and set the record straight. He gave said dossier to the media and told them to relay it back to "Big Sam".

Now, in arguably the most passive aggressive move of all time, Sam Allardyce is sticking up for Louis van Gaal. Either it was a patronising dig or a genuine take on a successful manager. Who knows?
One thing's for sure, Louis doesn't do charm.
