But that's easier said than done when it comes to limiting the attacking prowess of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.
The terrifying trio started together for the first time this season in their Champions League opener against Celtic and it didn't take long at all for them to start running riot.
Neymar took possession of the ball out wide, fed Messi and the Argentine didn't need telling twice as he walloped his strike into the roof of the net, beyond goalkeeper Dorus De Vries and covering defender Erik Sviatchenko.
Last year, it sounded like Messi was the biggest Celtic fan walking the earth given the praise he showered on the Scottish side.
