Ecuador goalkeeper Maximo Banguera can never be accused of not being resourceful. But sometimes even the finest of efforts go unrewarded.
Barcelona Sporting Club were taking on Athletico Nacional in the South American Copa Libertadores today and, with the teams levelled heading into the dying embers of the game, Barca's stopper came flying from his line and took out the opposing striker in a piece of cynicism he tried his damned best to cover up.
With the inevitable red car on the way, Banguera lay strewn on the turf, not moving, eyes closed as if to suggest he was passed out.
The referee took little sympathy for him though as he waited, card in hand, for the 'keeper to be dragged up to his feet by the medical team before being sent off.
And, just to compound his 89th minute dismissal misery, the team went on to concede in stoppage time and lose out 2-1 overall.
