Referees and officials should have the freedom to do their job without fear of being assaulted and there truly is no other word for this disgraceful act than 'assault.'
During a game in Guatemala between Deportivo Chicacao and Obereños, Daniel Pedrosa lost his cool when the referee of the game reached for a card after Pedrosa seemingly bumped into him unintentionally.
Once the official flashed the card in the player's face, Pedrosa viciously headbutted him before he brutally connected with a right hand that left the ref clutching his nose in agony.
As the obviously dismissed Pedrosa was ordered to the dugout by teammates, the injured official struggled to make his way to the sidelines for treatment.
The only course of action for an attack like this is surely a lifetime ban because there is no place in football for a player capable of this.
