This Azerbaijani player deserves all the plaudits for deliberately missing a penalty.

There was an outstanding act of sportsmanship in Azerbaijan at the weekend, during the clash between Inter Baku and Qarabag. Qarabag ended up as 2-0 victors, but that margin of victory could have been greater, had it not been for Elvin Mammadov. They were unjustly awarded a penalty in the second half after a Qarabag forward took a tumble in the box after jumping over the Inter keeper. Although there was clearly no contact between the players, and the forward didn't even try to sell it as a foul, the referee pointed to the spot. This prompted the Inter players to confront the referee over the poor decision and the crowd to become unsettled.
