Ninety years ago we manged a 3-1 win. Same again tonight please
Watching old games is nearly as much fun as watching new ones but you rarely get to see footage from quite so long ago. But Chris Holme (@historycompany) has tweeted a link to some fantastic British pathe film of the very first Ireland v USA game, in Dalymount, in 1924.
In his blog post on the game from 2011, Chris speculates that this is the first friendly that the 'Free State' team ever played and as well as the in-game stuff, the images of the players arriving at Dalyer via a horse-drawn cart are really something else.
The game was played on June 16 1924 and we came away with a 3-1 win. The same result tonight would be great, but we suspect the players won't be arriving by horse-drawn cart.
