The Gillette Soccer Saturday pundit stuck the boot in after Spurs could only manage a 0-0 draw with relegation strugglers Burnley.
Townsend came on in the 83rd minute but couldn't manage to leave his mark on the game for Mauricio Pochettino's side, something that Merson was quick to point out on social media at the final whistle.
