Villa could also be about to pair Adebayor with another less than industrious, but occasionally brilliant, and one-time Spurs striker.
According to The Daily Express, Dimitar Berbatov is discussing personal terms with Tim Sherwood's side, and is "ready for one last blast in the Premier League."
The Bulgarian forward is a free agent, after leaving Monaco, and his friendship with compatriot, and Villa legend, Stiliyan Petrov, has reportedly convinced him to join the Premier League club.
Berbatov will be 35 in January, but still runs roughly the same as he did when he was 25, so that shouldn't be an issue.
Some aren't convinced that the strikeforce of Adebayor and Berbatov will fire Villa to safety though.

But it should lead the Premier League charts in terms of effort per goals ratio.
According to The Mirror, Spurs are plotting a move for Ashley Young, because they're not prepared to pay £25 million for Yanick Bolasie. There's a sentence you never thought you'd read.
Whether Young is prepared to leave Manchester United, particularly after last season's great form, and the imminent sale of Angel di Maria, is another thing. Spurs have, however, reportedly targeted a wide player, and won't risk such an expensive outlay on Crystal Palace's Bolasie.
The club are also reportedly looking to sell either Andros Townsend or Aaron Lennon before the end of the transfer window.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo have today reported that Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno is on Barcelona's shortlist for a new left-back.
The 23 year-old only moved to the Premier League last year, and experienced mixed results, but seemingly did enough to convince Barca to place him on a shortlist for Adriano's replacement, alongside Spurs' defender Jan Vertonghen, Ricardo Rodriguez of Wolfsburg and Monaco's Layvin Kurzawa.
Mundo Deportivo see Moreno's unique selling point as being the fact he's Spanish. We should probably take this transfer rumour with a bucket of salt.

In other Liverpool transfer news, it appears the club will have to lower their valuation of Mario Balotelli. Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero claims the Serie A side are interested in the misfiring striker, but not at the price Liverpool quoted.
"They told me that Mario was yesterday in Genoa. He costs €10 million but, with discount, you look with open arms," the Sampdoria president yesterday.
Balotelli cost Liverpool £16 million from AC Milan last summer, but scored just one league goal last summer.
Ferrero may have a point.
Finally, the world's most injury prone professional football has found a new club. Abou Diaby has joined Ligue 1 side Marseille, snubbing interest from West Brom.
The former Arsenal midfielder has been plagued by injuries the past few years, but hopefully the 29 year old can reignite his once promising career in his native France.
If not, it's probably better to an injured professional footballer living beside the Mediterranean than back in England.Live sport on TV in Ireland this weekend – Football and GAA – June 26th-28th
