Thomas Tuchel “feels sorry” for Harry Kane as Bayern fail to win cup

Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel has apologised to record signing Harry Kane following his side's dismal German Super Cup defeat. Losing out 3-0 to RB Leipzig in German football's curtain raiser, new signing Kane missed out on his first chance at claiming silverware for Bayern. Having only signed for the Bavarian giants hours before kick off, the England captain started the game from the bench, before entering proceedings just after the hour mark. With much of the post-match media scrutiny on Kane and his prolonged wait for silverware, Tuchel apologised to the 30-year-old, saying;

"We don't expect him to be the superhero. We just expect him to be who he is. A top guy, a top goalscorer and a top personality. "I feel sorry for him. We did not create. We did not keep the momentum going. We did not create enough for him. "He will help us a lot. We need his attitude. To help us step out of the circle of repetitive performances like this."

Bayern have signed Kane for a fee in excess of €100 million, as Thomas Tuchel's side embark on the quest to secure the club's 12th straight domestic title. Leaving behind the chance to break Alan Shearer's longstanding Premier League goalscoring record, the former Tottenham man will be now be hoping for a more straightforward German title race and avoid a repeat of last season's, which saw Bayern claim the title in the dying stages of the final day.
