The end is nigh for David de Gea at Manchester United as Casillas announces departure

A 25-year association with Los Blancos is over.

Iker Casillas has told Real Madrid he is leaving the club, according to reports in Spain. The 34-year-old goalkeeper will look for a new club over the summer, making way for Manchester United's David de Gea. RTVE in Spain have announced that Casillas has come to an arrangement with the club to end his current contract early and seek a new club. At present, Fenerbache appear to be favourites to secure his signature. The Spaniard has been at the club since 1990. He broke into the Real squad in 1998 and made his senior debut a year later. Over 16 years with the club, Casillas has won five league titles, three Champions Leagues and two Copa del Rey trophies. Real have lined up de Gea as Casillas' replacement. United boss Louis van Gaal, speaking at the end of last season, said he was hopeful that his number one goalkeeper would stay but accepted keeping him in the Premier League would be challenging. De Gea made his name, in Spain, as a goalkeeper with Real's city rivals, Atletico. RTVE believe De Gea's move will be announced as early as next week. His move to be secured for as little as €27m as he only has/had a year left on his United deal. More to follow.
