Steven Gerrard has offered Wayne Rooney some good advice on his playing future

Steven Gerrard has told Wayne Rooney to pounce on the interest from DC United.

Rooney has been heavily linked with a move to DC United after reportedly growing disillusioned with life at Everton under new manager Marco Silva. It's believed that the veteran forward was angered by Silva's plans to utilise him as a bit-part player for the coming campaign. Reports have claimed that a deal has been agreed in principle which will see Rooney move to DC United this summer but little headway has been made in recent weeks. Despite finishing as the Toffees' top scorer last season, Rooney is said to be surplus to requirements at Goodison Park and it's difficult to foresee a scenario in which the 32-year-old stays with Everton. Rangers manager Gerrard enjoyed his time in Major League Soccer with LA Galaxy and he's encouraged Rooney to head Stateside before he hangs up his boots. When asked for his opinion on the rumours about Rooney's potential move to DC United, Gerrard revealed that it would be a sensible switch for the ex-England striker. "I hope he does, I hope he makes it. I enjoyed my time at the MLS and enjoyed the life experience," Gerrard told the Press Association, via the Liverpool Echo.

"I think where Wayne is now in his career I think it would be great for him and his family to go and settle in an incredible state and see a lot of America. It is certainly a life experience I’ll never forget and I hope he goes and has the same. The league is a good league, the players are fit and mobile and it is competitive and I enjoyed it at that stage of my career."
