Brendan Rodgers’ latest claim about Celtic is optimistic, even for him

OK, we all get a little carried away sometimes and say silly things we might regret.

So let's give Brendan Rodgers the benefit of the doubt that his far-fetched claim about Celtic was just a case of getting caught up in the dramatics of his first domestic league title as manager. Sunday saw Celtic claim a 5-0 victory over Hearts at Tynecastle and, in the process, secure their sixth consecutive Scottish Premiership title. Hat-trick hero Scott Sinclair was so distracted by the celebrations that he even missed the team coach as it left the ground. There was likely a case or two of beer in the away dressing room for the Hoops players to indulge in after a season's hard work paid off with eight games to spare. Maybe Rodgers had a bottle or two. Because he surely got carried away with himself when he suggested that Celtic could compete in the top six of the Premier League. SURELY... "Could we play in the Premier League? Yes, we could," Rodgers told Sky Sports. "I have absolutely no doubt about it because we've got the Celtic factor. We have 60,000 every other week. Without the money alone, this team would compete in the Premier League. "We took a Swansea team who won the Championship into the Premier League and we finished 11th but for us and what we were trying to do that was very, very good. "But this is Celtic. This is one of the great iconic clubs in the world so there is no doubt that with this group we could go in [there and compete]. Imagine the backing then. Celtic would be one of the minimum top four, top six clubs in the English Premier League and then that puts you on a different level altogether." You've got your Chelseas, your Spurs, your Manchester Citys, your Liverpools, your Manchester Uniteds, your Arsenals. One of them would have to make way for the green and white of Celtic. And Twitter just couldn't see the logic. https://twitter.com/Dinsyyy/status/848592703722057728 https://twitter.com/JailIslamists/status/848633652938506240 https://twitter.com/justdermo/status/848650650657452032 https://twitter.com/georgebales21/status/848651214996856832 https://twitter.com/nicbar84/status/848651758536708097 https://twitter.com/JackToulson12/status/848783497191985152 https://twitter.com/AssistingOzil/status/848830120840351745 https://twitter.com/LeeHappyNow/status/848810466830946310 https://twitter.com/louisHaarris/status/848801676240846848 https://twitter.com/Smiffilar/status/848778733016285184 https://twitter.com/MattHDGamer/status/848773891065602048 https://twitter.com/seangregory1988/status/848772206335332352
