Is €70million a lot for a player like Alex Teixeira?
It is a lot of money, of course... unless you're a Premier League club awash in a sea of TV rights money.
The player is highly rated, has pace, a decent eye for goal, and looks exactly the style of forward Liverpool have lacked since Luis Suarez.
Daniel Sturridge's career looks like it may never recover from his list of chronic injuries, so the Reds are looking for someone to come in, given them a significant lift, and possibly fire them to League Cup glory as well as helping them end to the season as agonizingly close to the top four as possible.
Ambitious we'll give them that.
But then it is unfortunate the club wont stump up the cash that Shakhtar Donetsk desire for the Brazilian, which according to the club's CEO, is close to €70million.
Various reports suggest Liverpool have had a bid of around £28million pounds, or €37million euro, for the player rejected and now look set to be priced out of any move for the 26-year-old.
Shakhtar CEO Sergei Palkin is reported to have told a website in Brazil that the deal is almost certainly dead as Liverpool have no intention of stumping up that kind of crazy money.

It seems fairly clear why Palkin would make comments like this as speculation grows about the striker's future.
But the true cost of not getting out the chequebook will only be clear to Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season.
