Sergio Reguilon edges closer to Man United move as talks intensify

Talks between the clubs have 'intensified'.

Manchester United and Real Madrid are edging closer to agreeing a fee for Sergio Reguilón, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.  Real Madrid were hoping to receive €30m for the 23-year-old, but it appears United have negotiated the fee down to €25m. There remain obstacles to overcome in the negotiations, most notably Real Madrid's wish to put a buy-back clause into the deal, while United are keen to sign him outright with no strings attached. Reguilón was hugely impressive during his loan spell at Sevilla last season, during which he helped them win their sixth Europa League title, beating United in the semi-finals. Sevilla were keen to take Reguilón back on another loan from Madrid, but have fallen out of the race, according to Fabrizio Romano. They have since turned their attention to Sporting CP full-back Marcos Acuna to replace Reguilón. Reguilón is understood to be very keen to sign for United, and the statistics indicate he would be an upgrade on their current left-back, Luke Shaw, who featured in a pre-season friendly against Aston Villa at the weekend. The Spaniard recorded five assists last season for Sevilla compared to Shaw's one, and also boasts better tackling and interception stats in defence. Madrid's willingness to sell Reguilón may come as a surprise to some but with Marcelo still playing at a high level and Ferland Mendy in the squad to rotate with the Brazilian, Reguilón's minutes would be limited if he were to stay at the Bernabeu. Madrid recognise his potential though, hence the desire to insert a buy-back clause. United are understandably reluctant to bow to that demand but anything can happen in the transfer window.
