Seamus Coleman makes significant donation to Donegal youngster battling cancer

Everton and Ireland star Seamus Coleman has made a significant donation to a two-year-old boy battling cancer in Donegal. According to Donegal Daily, the Irish captain donated €6,000 to Caolan Melaugh from Killygordan in Donegal, who was diagnosed with stage four cancer – a high-risk neuroblastoma – when he was just 10 months old. Since then, Caolan has had a tough 15 months or so, having had to undergo chemotherapy, surgery, stem cell transplant, radiotherapy and six months of immunotherapy. Coleman made the donation to a GoFundMe page set up for Caolan in January; medical expenses in the United States are set to cost Caolan’s family in excess of €200,000, but the GoFundMe page has already raised just short of €24,000 in two months.
Commenting on the generous donation, Gerard McConnell, who set up the GoFundMe page, told Donegal Daily:
“I nearly fell off my stool when I saw a donation of €6,000 coming in this morning from Seamie Coleman. “That is just such a wonderful thing for him to do, to think he took the time to read Caolan’s plight and to be so generous then with his money. “That will help enormously, we are all so thrilled.
