“Go home and take a look at yourself in the mirror” – Scott McTominay on Man United slump

"That's how it's going at the minute."

Scott McTominay will be staying on at Manchester United for next season. Whether he has a prominent role, or not, will be up to his own pre-season form and what incoming boss Erik Ten Hag wants to see in his United side. The midfielder had a decent outing against Arsenal but the United defence and a couple of big VAR decisions were the major hold-ups in a 3-1 defeat. Following the game, United's interim manager Ralf Rangnick admitted the club's Champions League hopes were now dead in the water. United have now lost four consecutive away games as they limp to the end of a dreadful season. McTominay came forward to give a raw, heartfelt interview that did not spare many involved at the listing club. 'Give your best, everyone' - Scott McTominay

"Goals change games of football," Scott McTominay reflected in an interview with BT Sport's Des Kelly. "We didn't put the ball in the back of the net enough, and they did. We dominated the first 20, 25 minutes of the second half and they go down the other side of the pitch and score, which is the way it's going at the minute.

"As I say, there's a whole lot of problems in terms of players, staff, everything higher up. We need to just concentrate on what's happening on the pitch. It's self-pride when we're on the pitch. We don't need to worry about who's saying what... this, that or the other. It's pride when you go on the pitch, give your best, everyone." "There's a lot of things going on at the minute, don't get me wrong," he added, "For us, when we get back into the dressing room, it's, go home and take a look at yourself in the mirror. You can't go home and be satisfied at conceding three goals away at Arsenal whenever we deserved to win the game. That's not the way that football works. "For us, self-belief, lack of confidence, you can see it all in the last two months. It has been coming. We had a half-decent game today, but even then, it's the belief, which is so big in football, it's just not here at the minute."
