Roy Keane’s assessment of Wales’ performance is very, very different to what Gareth Bale saw

Roy Keane isn't one for sentiment.

On Wednesday night, while everyone else was hailing Wales as heroes, he delivered a brutally frank assessment of their performance against Portugal. The Welsh dream came to an end at the semi-final stage after two goals in three minutes sunk Chris Coleman's men. And while they were impressive throughout the tournament, Keane believes the players will be unhappy with how they performed in the biggest game in the history of Welsh football.

"They've been fantastic and surprised everyone by getting to the semi-final. But tonight they lacked quality," Keane said on ITV. "The manager spoke before the game about having no regrets – I think they will. They were never on the front foot."

https://twitter.com/JOE_co_uk/status/750947541882056704 But despite the former Manchester United captain's assessment, Gareth Bale doesn't agree with the Irishman, crediting the fans and the players for putting in a performance over the course of the tournament which exceeded everyone's expectations.

"We've got to be proud of ourselves first and foremost. We want to thank all the fans, they've been incredible," he said after the match. "We have no regrets. We're a proud nation and we're proud of everything we achieved. Nobody expected us to get this far but we did."
