“Absolute rubbish” – Roy Keane wants to manage again but rules out West Brom vacancy

Roy Keane says he still feels he has something to offer in the world of football management, but do not expect him to be taking a job at The Hawthorns any time soon. West Bromwich Albion sacked Steve Bruce after they dropped into the relegation zone of the Championship. Keane, who has been out of management since 2019, has been installed as an early favourite to replace his old Manchester United teammate. Keane leads a list that includes the likes of Chris Wilder, Sean Dyche and Scott Parker. During a discussion on the pressure on managers in modern-day football, Keane said he did still pine for another stint on the sidelines.

"I still think I've something to offer - that's the bottom line. I still think I could do something with a club." "I think I could help players," he added, "and that I can be a good manager... that's part of the bug - you think you can go back and fix up a club. Part of that is winning matches... something in the pit of my stomach that makes me feel I should have another go at it, and it won't go away."

After managerial stints at Sunderland and Ipswich Town, Roy Keane then took assistant manager jobs at Aston Villa then, under Martin O'Neill, with Ireland and Nottingham Forest. Although there is an itch that Keane wants to scratch, regarding being his own boss at a club, West Brom may not bother lifting up the phone to seek him out. Asked if reports linking him with the Baggies were accurate, the Cork native delivered a classic response: "No, it's bizarre. The bookies do play silly games with people. I think I was favourite for a few jobs before, in the last year or two, and it was all nonsense. "Same for any speculation over the last 24, 48 hours.
