Roy Keane takes hilarious swipe at England set-up following Nations League win

His comments came after their 3-0 win over Greece in Lee Carsley's penultimate game in charge.

In what was former Ireland international Lee Carsley's penultimate game in charge before Thomas Tuchel takes over, Keane was quick to take a swipe at the situation.

He said: "You've got an Irish fella getting you to the top of the group, and you've got a German waiting," which left Ian Wright in hysterics.

Former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager Tuchel will take charge of England in the new year and his appointment caused a stir within the British press due to his nationality.

Speaking about Tuchel's appointment last month Keane said: "Why are you bothered about where he is from? I don’t get that.

“If this manager goes on to win the World Cup, think of the knock-on effect it would have for the FA moving forward."

Last night's victory means that England currently top League B Group 2 of the Nations League, ahead of Greece only on goal difference.

Former Manchester United skipper Keane was full of praise for what was a dominant performance from England, saying: "Tonight was a proper team performance, mature and they showed their quality.

"For England, it’s all positive. The big players performed, and young players stepped up. Lee Carsley deserves huge praise. They really looked like they enjoyed it. They didn’t seem to be under that much pressure and played with freedom."

Carseley's men will conclude their Nations League campaign on Sunday, November 17 when they host Ireland at Wembley.

Keane briefly spoke about the upcoming fixture, saying: "You would hope Ireland are better than they were in the first game of the group and it will be a tougher game than it was then.

"The new manager has come in and done well. Evan Ferguson has scored another goal and he is a big prospect for Ireland.

"England will certainly be favourites on Sunday, but hopefully lots of (Irish) fans turn up and we see a better performance from Ireland than the first game against England. We’ll see. I’m looking forward to it.”
