Roy Keane criticised David de Gea after the Manchester United goalkeeper won the Premier League's 'Golden Glove' award. The former Red Devils captain also urged the club to let De Gea leave the club this summer.
At Old Trafford on Sunday, De Gea was presented with the award for the most clean sheets in the division last season. The Spanish goalkeeper kept 17 clean sheets, three more than Liverpool's Alisson Becker in second place.
De Gea, 32, also signed off the season by saving Aleksandar Mitrovic's penalty in United's 2-1 win over Fulham.
Roy Keane: David de Gea should be moved on by Man United.
Following the game, De Gea was presented with the 'Golden Glove' award and congratulated by his teammates.
Yet, Keane wasn't impressed and said that United should cut ties with the 'keeper who has made 544 appearances for the club.
He also criticised De Gea's teammates for 'patting him on the back.'
"Manchester United had to improve defensively from last year because they were so bad," Keane said on Sky Sports.
"They’re all patting De Gea on the back there. I’d move him on quickly.
"He wouldn’t be for me. He’s not going to get Manchester United back winning trophies, absolutely not.
"The idea that the players are patting him on the back is ridiculous, that’s his job."
De Gea's contract with Man United is due to expire in the summer.
The goalkeeper, who is the club's longest-serving player having joined from Atletico Madrid in 2011, will reportedly sign a new deal on reduced terms.
Keane urges Man United to let De Gea leave.
It was put to Keane that De Gea could remain at Old Trafford as the backup should United sign a new goalkeeper
The Irishman dismissed this suggestion and brought up the incident from 2015 when De Gea almost signed for Real Madrid.
"No, you wouldn’t keep him as a number two. He wouldn’t want that, he wouldn’t stay for that," Keane continued.
"He’s done okay, he’s won a few Player of the Year awards. But what big deal is that? It’s about what the team is achieving.
"I think he’s made far too many mistakes over the years. He was trying to leave the club a few years ago and go to Real Madrid."
