However, on occasions he falls back into bad habits and attempts to con the referee. His admirers would suggest he does it no more than most players in this day and age, and perhaps they have a case.
But for some reason, La Liga side Celta Vigo seem to bring out the worst in the Portuguese. Last December, he produced this embarrassment against the Galician club....

On Saturday again, he fell flat on his face against Celta, tripping over his own feet and then having the temerity to gesticulate to the referee for a free-kick.
The official was having non of it and waved play on. A sarcastic smile on Ronaldo's face probably masked his blushes rather than portraying genuine grievance...
