Rodri terminates Atletico contract after City activate buyout clause

Manchester City will look to bring Spain international Rodri to the Etihad next season after the player terminated his contract with Atletico Madrid.

City triggered Rodri's reported €70 million buy out clause with Atletico then confirming on their website that the player had unilaterally terminated his contract with the club, which ran until June 30, 2023. https://twitter.com/atletienglish/status/1146431700626485248 Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has previously highlighted his side's midfield as an area for improvement with Fernandinho set to turn 35 at the end of next season. The former Barcelona boss said in January that he was looking to bring in a player that could do everything for them as City look to build on back-to-back winning campaigns.

"I think the way we play we need a guy with physicality, quick in the head and in reading our spaces to attack," he said. "The more things he can do, the better. It is not easy to find one player who can do everything. The price, the agents, the clubs when you want to buy the player… "We will see. We have seen many. There are three or four we are searching for in that position."
