Robbie Brady’s injury is as bad as we feared

Burnley and Ireland have lost a real creative spark.  Robbie Brady's season is over. The midfielder is to undergo surgery after being stretchered off during Burnley's clash with Leicester City following a collision with Harry Maguire. The former Hull City man was released from hospital on Tuesday evening after being assessed and Burnley manager Sean Dyche revealed the extent of the injury as part of a club statement.

“Robbie will have surgery to repair a patellar tendon tear and will be out for a substantial recovery period. “He will be given all the time and care he needs on his recovery and supported throughout from all of us at Burnley Football Club.”

The 25-year-old joined the Clarets from Norwich City in January and has been an integral member of Dyche's first-team. He scored his first league goal of the season last week in a 2-1 win over Bournemouth and the injury is a devastating blow considering his recent form. Although Burnley didn't confirm the length of the layoff in terms of weeks and months, it's safe to assume that he may not feature for the Premier League side in the current campaign. It also rules him out of Republic of Ireland's two scheduled friendlies in March while there is a significant doubt over whether he will have recovered in time for the UEFA Nations League, which launches in September.
