Rio Ferdinand thinks Jose Mourinho is trying to get sacked from Manchester United

Former England defender Rio Ferdinand thinks that manager Jose Mourinho might be trying to get sacked from Manchester United given the nature of some of his comments.

United drew 0-0 with Valencia at Old Trafford in the Champions League group stages on Tuesday and the result leaves the club without a win in their last four games and without a home win since their season opening victory over Leicester City in August. Ferdinand, who played 455 games for Manchester United over 12 seasons at the club, said that he believes that Mourinho might be trying to manufacture his way out of the club given some of the statements he's made and some of the things he's done over the last few weeks.

“Some of his actions, some of the things that he says,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport's post-match show. “You lose the game 3-1 (to West Ham last Saturday) and it’s evident to everybody in that stadium or anyone around the world that watched that game that the attitude of the players and the intensity that they played, was wrong. It was off. “He came out and said ‘it actually wasn’t a problem for me’. I don’t know what game he was watching. “And he started talking about the network of scouts for the other team, picking fights with places that is so off-key and out of sorts that you think ‘you must be searching for the sack the way you’re talking’.”

Former Manchester United midfielder and fellow BT Sport analyst Paul Scholes launched a scathing attack on José Mourinho before the match and claimed that he is "embarrassing the club" with his behaviour.

"He's coming out in press conferences, he's constantly having a go at players, he's having a go at people above him because he's not getting what he wants," said Scholes. "I think his mouth is out of control and he's embarrassing the club."
