Report: Sergio Ramos’ move to Manchester United is now “impossible”

Sergio Ramos' potential transfer to Manchester United appears dead in the water.

It was reported last month that the defender told Real Madrid he wants to leave, and only join United, who submitted a €44 million bid for Ramos. Madrid rejected the offer, but haven't offered Ramos a new, improved deal, which is believed to be the source of the defender's issue with the club. The Spanish defender has entered into the final 24 months of his contract, a point Madrid rarely allow a first team player reach before either offering a new contract, or selling him on. According to Spanish football expert Sid Lowe, Ramos met with Madrid club representatives over the weekend in China, where the club are on their pre-season tour, and was categorically told he won't be leaving the club this summer, despite the defender once again stating his desire to join United. According to Lowe: "Although there are still five weeks of the transfer window remaining, the belief from some quarters is that Ramos’s departure is now impossible and United are considering their next move. Ramos has not agreed a contract renewal at the Bernabéu and it is not yet clear whether he has finally given up on the move." The meeting between Ramos and his brother, who acts as his agent, and the Madrid hierarchy, including club president Florentio Perez, reportedly lasted well into Sunday night, but ended with the club refusing to sell the player. As Ramos has two years left on his deal, Madrid feel they're in a strong position to make him stay at the club. Lowe also reports that the Spanish side won't sell the player even if he submits a transfer request, a move that would damage the new club captain's relationship with the fans. H/T The Guardian.
