For Liverpool fans tired of seeing Glen Johnson getting caught out of position on the team's right flank, reports of a new contract offer to the England full-back may be seen as cause for either optimism of dismay.
Johnson's current £120,000-a-week deal expires next summer, and The Mirror is reporting that the Anfield club have offered the 30-year-old a two-year extension to the deal.
The kicker for Johnson is that they say they will halve his wages to £60,000 -a-week if he wants to remain on Merseyside, giving the former Chelsea man every reason to let this season play out and seek a better payday, perhaps on the continent as an offseason free agent.
