The former Republic of Ireland defender he's quitting the game at 34 due to injury.
His club Wycombe Wanderers made the announcement this morning on their Twitter feed:

The 'illustrious' the tweet refers to must mean his spells at Luton, Tottenham and Norwich as well as Wycombe where he ended his career after 501 club appearances.
The Carndonagh man was a threat at both ends of the pitch and despite being mostly played as a centre-half he did pop up with some impressive goals in his time earning him the nickname 'The Ginger Pele'

He secured 34 caps in his time with the Republic of Ireland and was our top scorer in a bleak 2004 Euro's campaign with a grand total of three goals. Still more goals for Ireland than Ronaldo ever managed.
