VAR has been the subject of many debates this season
The Premier League are desperate to ensure there is no more controversy surrounding VAR and in order to do so, have called upon pilots from British Airways for assistance.
VAR has had a series of high-profile blunders – none more so than the decision to incorrectly rule out Luis Diaz’s goal for offside, despite replays showing he was clearly on.
Newcastle’s win against Arsenal earlier this month also caused debate as Anthony Gordon’s winner was allowed to stand despite three potential infringements in the build up.
Throughout the season, PGMOL chief Howard Webb has taken to releasing audio from divisive decisions in a bid to be more transparent to fans, however the reaction to it has been mixed.
Now, according to The Times, qualified pilots gave a presentation to top-flight referees with the view of helping them communicate with more clarity under pressure.
Chris Heaven and Pete Nataraj both delivered the presentation, where they stressed the importance of keeping the dialogue straight and concise,
Additionally, they added that informal talk between those working on VAR should be cut out, as well as congratulating correct decisions as it can distract those from the task at hand.
These are set to be deployed in this weekend’s fixtures which contains one of the biggest of the season, Liverpool and Manchester City, who face each other on Saturday.
