Massive changes set for Premier League TV coverage

Sunday's on the sofa are about to get even better...

The Premier League is set to introduce a radical overhaul of its' live TV coverage from the 2024/25 season. This shake up will see every match played on a Sunday broadcast live on TV. Whilst the League had hoped to introduce this new format ahead of the upcoming season, it is tied contractually for a further year to the present broadcasting schedule. Every three years, the Premier League's broadcasting rights go out for auction to the highest bidders, but in this latest process for 2024-2027, they have chosen to move away from the traditional 2pm and 4.30pm Sunday kick-offs. According to the Mail, the total number of Premier League games shown live across the season will increase by over a third, from 200 games to 270. (Credit: Getty Images)[/caption] Due to the current broadcasting schedule, only two games per Sunday are available live in the UK. However, given English clubs increased involvement in Europe and having to play more mid-week fixtures, the League's biggest clubs often find themselves playing on Sunday's off fans' TV screens. It is hoped that this new Sunday schedule will feature games across the day, with the first live game kicking off at 12pm and the final fixture airing as late as 7pm. Reports also suggest that an increased number of Friday and Monday games could be put on offer to broadcasters, as the League hopes to boost its TV revenue package to a staggering €5.8 billion. The current TV rights within the UK are held by Sky Sports and BT Sport, although it is thought that streaming giants Amazon, Apple and others could potentially challenge for the 2024-2027 broadcasting rights when their auction occurs in Autumn.
