The former Celtic and Aston Villa legend today begins his last week of treatment after being diagnosed with acute Leukaemia in March 2012 when he was skippering Paul Lambert's side at the time.
And, after almost three years of fighting, he can see an end to what he described as a "bumpy ride."
Petrov has touched the hearts of football fans worldwide for his show of strength and bravery at such a tough time and, even back in October, he was kitting out with Wychall Wanderers just to play Sunday League football in Birmingham.
Today, the Bulgarian posted this inspiring picture on his Twitter account to confirm the good news that he is almost finished with the treatment.
What a legend you are, Stan.
