PIC: 1992 schoolboy’s match report points out 12-year-old Steven Gerrard as future star

We're christening this reporter Psychic Steve for his ability to predict that Steven Gerrard would blossom into a future superstar. Former Liverpool and Ireland player Steve Heighway was covering a game between England Schoolboys and Republic of Ireland back in 1992 and spotted a passionate young player by the name of Stephen (Steven) Gerrard as a next generation gem.

Heighway writes:

Outstanding potential has to be recognised and nurtured and Stephen Gerrard, a gem from Huyton, could be the next on our production line...

He has enormous natural talent and is a Liverpool fan through and through. His attitude to coaching and personal development is a joy to see and our staff are genuinely excited by his prospects.

Stephen has already been brought to the attention of the FA National Coaching staff as "one for the future" and no effort will be spared to create the right environment for him and his talents to develop at this club.

What we can ascertain from this is that, not only was Heighway a playing great, but his ability to spot talent is second to none.
