Philipp Lahm sets retirement date

Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm has revealed his plans for retirement.
The defender, who called time on his international career last summer after lifting the World Cup as German captain, announced his intention to retire in 2018. Having played over 400 games for Bayern, claiming seven Bundesliga titles and a Champions League trophy, Lahm has already earned himself legendary status in Munich. However, he says he is not going to play beyond the age of 34. "Once again, it is most clear to me that I am going to finish [my career] in 2018," Lahm told Sport Bild magazine. "It's good for me to be able to prepare for a definite date." "With the national team I prepared myself for my farewell, that is why I am still 100 per cent behind the decision and have never regretted it."
