Peter Schmeichel tears into Paul Pogba after Man United draw

'You can’t have players doing that.'

Peter Schmeichel bizarrely turned his frustrations to Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba and his performance during United's 1-1 draw with Burnley on Tuesday night. Pogba scored the opening goal of the game just before the 20-minute mark with a well-struck effort that found the roof of the net. Jay Rodriguez equalised for the hosts at Turf Moor shortly after the restart as Ralf Rangnick's side dropped more points yet again to fall further behind in the race for the top four.

Whilst Pogba didn't look at his absolute best, he performed better than some of his teammates, with Harry Maguire the centre of criticism from supporters and pundits. The Man United captain made a series of errors in the build-up to Burnley's goal. But Old Trafford legend Schmeichel instead focused his criticism on the Frenchman. Schmeichel said Pogba must dramatically improve his performances. "I said before the game Pogba played fantastic on Friday night. If Pogba plays like that we want to keep him, we desperately want to keep him," he told Premier League Productions. "But he was completely out of the game today and you can't have players doing that. "That's not good enough for Man United. At Man United, you've got to have a very, very high low-level and at a minimum you've got to perform to that. "You've got to have this type of urgency and understanding of when you need to push forward to get the goal you need. "In the last 20 minutes, the way Man United played was all in the same tempo and all in the same pattern. "There were no pressure balls into Burnley's box, there were no questions being asked." Pogba has less than six months remaining on his United contract and doubts continue to remain over whether or not the midfielder will sign an extension before his deal expires. Related links:
